ITINERARY EXCURSION TO TAORMINA
Excursions for Jonicatour cruise passengers from the port of Catania or Messina.
Once in Taormina, we will leave our bus or private car to give you the opportunity to start a walking tour through the streets of the city.
Here you can visit the famous Greek Theater, where you can admire the remains of the ancient theater with the Etna volcano in the background (enchanting). Next to the Greek Theater you will have the opportunity to visit the Taormina municipal villa where you will enjoy one of the most beautiful views of Sicily.
The Villa Comunale was originally the residence’s park of Lady Florence Trevelyan, English noblewoman cousin of Queen Victoria, who lived in Taormina since 1884 and married the mayor of that time, Prof. Salvatore Cacciola. The park for Lady Florence’s wish was built like a typical English garden in which many rare plant species were placed.
The garden passed to the municipality of Taormina in 1922 and inside, thanks to the inspiration of Lady Trevelyan, one can still admire some particular buildings called ‘victorian follies’.
Hosting in his villa many famous people of the time helped launch the name and the beauties of Taormina
Another important stop is Corso Umberto I, the main street of Taormina, characterized by a combination of fashion shops and souvenirs, delicatessens and cafes. As well as being an elegant shopping street, the Corso is rich in architectural and artistic testimonies from different eras.
After a panoramic tour we will take you to admire “the beautiful island” in Mazzarò, a small town on the sea of Taormina (a charm for your eyes).
The availability of private vehicles with driver at your service will give you the opportunity to visit places chosen by you without any constraint and in full autonomy and freedom. What we recommend in the article are just the unmissable places of Taormina.
